Blue Dot Leadership LLC

Most transformation efforts fail for the same reason.
But yours doesn’t have to.

Whether the technology is cloud, data, or now AI, leaders solve for the system and assume the people problem will sort itself out. It never does. Anh Phillips has spent 15+ years researching why — across three books and a career inside transformation programs — and now brings that evidence directly into the room.

AI is forcing the same reckoning digital transformation did a decade ago — except faster, and with higher stakes for how leaders build trust, redesign work, and manage talent through disruption.

The name

Why “Blue Dot”

In 1990, Voyager 1 turned its camera back toward home from 3.7 billion miles away. Earth appeared as a single pixel of light — what Carl Sagan later called the “pale blue dot.” Astronauts who’ve seen the planet from that distance describe a cognitive shift researchers call the Overview Effect: the ability to step back far enough to see the whole system, instead of just the piece directly in front of you.

Blue Dot Leadership takes its name from that shift in perspective. We’re at the start of another enormous change in how people live and work — driven by technology, but determined by leadership at every level. What that future looks like depends on the decisions leaders make right now, and most of those decisions get made too close to the problem to see it clearly. Blue Dot is built around five commitments to leading from a wider view:

Perspective Step back far enough to see the whole system — be intentional, not reactionary.
Humility Stay curious about what you don’t yet know, even after a career of expertise.
Humanity Lead with a shared sense of responsibility to people and to the system holistically.
Vision Treat the future as something you have both the opportunity and the responsibility to shape.
Courage Do what’s right and what’s hard, not just what’s been done before.

01

The AI Reckoning

AI is forcing the same reckoning digital transformation did a decade ago — except faster, and with higher stakes. This talk applies 15+ years of transformation research directly to the leadership decisions AI is forcing right now: how to build trust, redesign work, and manage talent through the fastest disruption cycle most leaders have seen.

02

The Technology Fallacy

Why the biggest risk to your transformation isn’t the technology. Drawing on two books and joint research with MIT Sloan Management Review and Deloitte, this talk breaks down why transformation is not a one-time initiative and why culture is the key to building resilience in the age of constant disruption.

03

Working Better Together in the Age of AI

Wellbeing as a performance strategy, not a perk. This talk makes the operational case for treating workplace relationships and wellbeing as infrastructure, especially for teams under transformation pressure, where trust is the first thing to erode.

About

Who’s behind the research

Anh Phillips

Anh Phillips has dedicated her career to championing the people side of change and transformation, with a focus on leadership, culture, and wellbeing. She spent over a decade in operational leadership before she began studying transformation for a living. Running business and technology teams through CRM and order management implementations, she started to ask why some changes endured, while others never got traction. That question sent her into 15+ years of research, including as research director for Deloitte’s Global CEO Program, studying why tech-enabled change succeeds or fails on people, from cloud, to data, to now AI.

That research became three books, co-authored with leading academics and practitioners: The Technology Fallacy, The Transformation Myth, and Work Better Together. The throughline across all of it: culture, leadership, and talent aren’t the “soft side” of transformation. They’re the variable that actually determines whether it works.

Today she works with senior executives who are past the point of wanting another framework and want someone who’ll tell them what the research shows, including where it contradicts conventional practice.

Anh lives in Atlanta with her husband and two kids, and still reads far more books than she writes.

Background 10+ years in operational technology and client leadership roles
Research 15+ years; former research director, Deloitte’s Global CEO Program
Publications 3 books and dozens of reports and articles
Focus areas AI & the future of work, transformation strategy, culture, leadership, wellbeing
Books

Three books, one throughline

Each book takes on a different piece of the same argument: that people, not platforms, decide whether transformation works.
